Pros

If you are reliable and personable and don't want to grow you career or accomplish anything it's still a paycheque in the bank. The existing management hasn't had experience developing a reliable product so they tend to be very soft on you when you fail as well. As long as you don't step on any toes you can study whatever you want most of the day, have minimal productivity, and you will not get laid off. There's a very primitive and non-science based approach to engineering that will please people who went through school with the "C's get degrees" attitude.

Cons

There are no career growth opportunities in a company that isn't growing. If you're looking to learn from a mentor with experience and sharp engineering skills it won't be found at Westport. Nobody really knows what they are doing and body has the drive to get things done. It feels a lot like high school. There are bullies, slackers, teachers' pets, cliques, free loaders, control freaks, agoraphobes, wanna-be-know-it-alls, etc. It's completely unlike any large corporation I have ever worked for.

Pros

- Attractive location. Fantastic restaurants and small park within walking distance - Flexible schedule - Above average vacation time - Good health and dental benefits - Lots of training provided for professional development

Cons

- Unclear mission statement - Old-timers have absolutely no accountability for any past missteps/failures - Some under qualified and inexperienced engineering managers that lack the basic credentials with long history of misguided projects and failures - Excessive turnover rate in upper management - Both top and middle management spend majority time driving and fighting politics as oppose to understanding and solving the actual problem - Low employee morale, engineering staff have little to no drive for "innovation" or delivering a stellar product
