Pros

I was lucky enough to have committed managers in the first years of my employment who trained me and taught me leadership and communication. I was able to develop my wine knowledge and had fun recommending wines for different food pairings.

Cons

Nine out of ten times a customer does not care about how much you know about wine. The company prioritizes their image over anything else; most of my engagements with head office were dehumanizing. There is little to no support for your mental health which is disappointing, considering that you will likely need to deal with thefts and intoxicated adults on a regular basis, sometimes by yourself. Unsustainable pay, too much free alcohol, too many fake smiles. It is your standard retail job except you have way more responsibility and they make you treat your position as if it is a lifelong career investment.
