Lovely colleagues, challenging environment, no trust in upper management
Pros
This company has the most wonderful collection of colleagues, they are talented, hard working and usually willing to help one another. I have made some lasting friendships over the years. The flexible work life balance was excellent and the ability to work without being micromanaged was refreshing. I was also reimbursed well for my role.
Cons
Upper management has consistently struggled, and trust is noticeably lacking. Communication is limited, decisions feel opaque, and leadership often seems disconnected from what’s actually happening on the ground. From my perspective, WithSecure no longer has a clear or stable direction. Strategies shift constantly, and the frequent restructures, often resulting in significant job losses, have created ongoing uncertainty throughout my entire tenure. With such constant changes it's incredibly difficult to progress with projects, or learning and development as the day to day is consumed by restructure activities (especially for those in operational roles). Unfortunately, I was personally affected by these changes last year, and the way my situation was handled made the experience even more disappointing. During one of the restructures last year, my team was explicitly told we were “out of scope.” Yet, a couple of months later and without any prior indication, I received an unexpected call informing me that my role was being eliminated. There was no explanation, no discussion of alternatives, just a brief notification and a thank you. After such a long tenure, having had such positive feedback and strong indications of security just the year prior, I was left feeling desperately sad and highly undervalued. What's more, the recent addition of work anniversary celebrations in Town Hall meetings, (suggesting that employees who stay with the company are valued for their commitment), feel like a slap in the face! I am sure I am not the only x-employee feeling like this is a joke considering most have had no choice with regards to their length of service.
