How did I land my DREAM job?!

Pros

This is hands-down the best job I've ever had. I love "going" to work every day (i.e. opening up my Slack/Zoom to chat with my coworkers, as we all work remotely). I travel very often, and they actively encourage my worldwide adventures here! I can work from wherever as long as I have stable internet connection and make our meetings. We have an absolutely amazing team that is super smart, works hard, but also knows how to laugh and have fun. The culture is super positive and compassionate - we all support each other. I want to give a special shout-out to the management culture of this company, which is unlike anything I've experienced elsewhere. Lots of companies claim to care about your well being, but never have I felt so valued as I do here. As a young new grad, I am surprised and grateful for how often my opinions and advice are validated by more senior-level employees, including the CEO. I get amazing support and encouragement from everyone, but especially from my manager. They give me time to learn from my managers in a more casual conversation during weekly one-on-one sessions where we also tackle life goals, career goals, and personal growth, beyond any career objectives. Also, they REALLY CARE ABOUT YOU! If I ever feel sick or even just off on a given day (life gets in the way sometimes) and I can't do my work efficiently, I am encouraged to take time off to relax and recharge. There's no passive-aggression about taking it as I've experienced elsewhere. Our management always announces their vacation time off and actively encourages other employees to do the same in order to normalize this for everyone. Time off for your mental health and well-being is actively promoted. Lastly, the level transparency here is really something to be lauded. Conversations incredibly open, and management periodically encourages discussion and constructive criticism about how we can improve the company. Everyone feels very comfortable giving suggestions either in our daily company-wide meetings, or anonymously via forms, making this discussion effective in reality, and not just on paper.

Cons

The only thing I can think of is a lack of 401k matching, but I'm sure this will be added on later as the company grows.

Pros

Benefits do include flexible PTO, great 401K, fully paid medical premiums, lots of time off for paternity, maternity, and medical leave. The employees, not management, are incredibly kind and enjoyable.

Cons

Keep in mind that negative reviews are coming from CURRENT employees who have seen and experienced the changes the company has made in the past year. Wizehire has high standards and is a small team (about 110) so everyone is expected to do much more than we’re paid for. That IS toxic; it's not the way any company should treat their employees. Wizehire used to be a positive, welcoming, and challenging place to work. Now it’s just sad. The pace is too fast, hard work is no longer rewarded, and the leadership only cares about themselves . As a result, long time employees are leaving the company.

Pros

Most coworkers were amazing to work with.

Cons

Before I got laid off, there were 2 other layoff rounds in 2023. In the all-hand meetings after those layoffs, leadership was pretty vocal about how little they cared about the bad Glassdoor reviews. On a personal level, I think the leaders are mostly good people with good intentions. Professionally, the big and small decisions leadership has made have been poor. And I don’t think they truly know how to lead a company at the growth stage. CEO made some big bets on expanding that are not performing well. I have to imagine VC money/pressure is playing a big role in this downward spiral. They've hired leadership with inflated salaries that are unfortunately not the right fit. If a leader hasn’t ever done the work, having productive conversations with them about new ideas and how to execute them is impossible. My experience working here has taught me what type of company and leaders I don’t want to work for. There was little room for growth, preference for external hires over internal promotions, unclear expectations, career pathing took forever to roll out, no merit increases, extreme favoritism, and no alignment. Wizehire's core offering is a hiring platform that helps SMBs hire better and faster - yet their hiring process was terrible! It took almost 3 months to go from from initial interview to offer letter. I should have taken that as a red flag.
