Not what I expected.

Pros

Great miss and ambitious overall goals. Felt good to work for an org who said they cared about the well-being of women and girls of color.

Cons

Hardly any opportunities for professional development, and there seems to be high turnover. A lot of wage secrecy, which doesn't bode well for an org who claims they care about equal pay. Very small staff, which at least for me made things really difficult. And for a long time, there was no Human Resources Department

HORRIBLE PLACE TO WORK!!!!

Pros

Great location in Foggy Bottom, near Georgetown. Good benefits. Some of the work was rewarding, like helping raise awareness about domestic violence.

Cons

I was really excited when I started working at YWCA USA (the National Office) in Washington, D.C. But it turned out to be the WORST job of my career! Absolutely horrible management who don't have strong vision, skills or expertise to lead the organization. Very hostile environment where employees are constantly criticized and bullied by leadership, who honestly don't know what they are doing. High turnover, low morale and absolute dysfunction! The YWCA claims to "empower women" but the truth is the leadership does more to belittle, harass and bully women! Be warned: You will ruin your career and waste your time working here!
