Small company limited growth of career

Nice enough people, decent culture overall but felt mostly unsupported in my efforts to understand the codebase and largely left to fend for myself. The lead engineer was remote and reticent and from what I can tell unhappy in his role. The head of engineering was a nice fella but asked me to do some profoundly dumb stuff which was an utter waste of time - this caused me to lose faith in him. Quickly came to the conclusion that it would be a real struggle to achieve success.
