How might future regulation address the risks associated with AI? And how do we ensure that AI regulation does not stifle innovation? Last week Adarga held a thought-provoking panel event on what the European proposed Artificial Intelligence Act means for future AI regulation. The panel featured a stellar line-up of speakers including Lord Tim Clement-Jones (former Chair of the House of Lords Select Committee on Al), Dr Hugo Rosemont (Public Policy Manager Defence & National Security, Amazon Web Services (AWS)), Peter Lee (Partner Simmons & Simmons, CEO Simmons Wavelength) and John Buyers (Partner, Osborne Clarke) – with Adarga’s General Counsel Sarah Milsted leading the engaging discussion. The panel broached a number of interesting topics including the UK’s own approach to AI policy and regulation, what role businesses should play in holding AI to account and, importantly, how this applies to the Defence and National Security Market in which many of our customers operate. We are pleased to welcome Flight Lieutenant Adam from the Royal Air Force (RAF) to the Adarga team this week as part of The Percy Hobart Fellowship! Adam’s experience with threat risk assessment will be an invaluable contribution to the important work we do here at Adarga for our customers in defence, national security and beyond. This 12-week programme gives immersive, hands-on experience in innovation via industry placements to personnel in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force (RAF), in this case focusing on the transformational nature of AI software. Alongside this placement, Adam will also participate in The Percy Hobart Fellowship’s course on innovation. Our own Principal Data Scientist will be lecturing on the course so will be a friendly face at the podium. The Fellowship is a programme run by PUBLIC on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence featuring a great cohort of spearheading companies. #PercyHobartFellowship #Innovation #Defence #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #Technology #MOD #NationalSecurity
The UK’s announcement of a new AI Standards Hub is a welcome and timely commitment to help shape the emerging framework of global governance of Artificial Intelligence. AI’s importance an accelerant for all other technologies and its transformative potential for society places an imperative on the UK to lead and influence the international standards that govern the development and deployment of AI systems. Transparency, safety, traceability, and robustness are practical areas where AI companies, researchers and individual developers alike can make a profound and immediate impact. Building trust through shared values, principles and standards, aligned with those of our allies and international partners, will also catalyse widespread AI adoption - these are the critical levers of advantage in our Information Age, and we at Adarga are excited to engage with and contribute to the community formed around the AI Standards Hub. This is a positive step following the publication of the governments National AI Strategy, on which you can read my commentary, including recommendations

How does Adarga's Knowledge Platform contextualise data and information using AI? Disambiguation is a branch of Natural Language Processing. This is one of the AI techniques Adarga deploys in its platform - along with machine learning and network science technology - to automate time and knowledge-intensive processes. This automation enables data to be turned into insight at speed. Disambiguation techniques are concerned with reducing or eliminating ambiguity to determine the meaning of a specific phrase in context. For example, understanding whether the term 'London' refers to the UK capital or a Canadian city in a body of text. A very significant element in the analysis process. For an accessible introduction to the topic of disambiguation, read on here: https://lnkd.in/dR53Kx8W #NLP #AI #data #disambiguation #technology #innovation
