Every June, Pride month serves as a unified opportunity to support, celebrate, and commemorate the LGBTQ+ community. Anchor has lots planned this year to centre stories and experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals from a panel event where colleagues can share their stories, to coffee mornings with residents as guest speakers. We'll also finish the month off with a 'Wear Your Colours' Day to encourage everyone to think about what Pride means to them. Looking ahead, Anchor will also be at Leeds Pride in August to support our colleagues and residents who identify as LGBTQ+ and make sure that we continue to be a safe and supportive place to live and work for everyone all year round.
Have you ever wondered why companies, like Anchor, ask for information about your ethnicity, gender, disability status etc. at application? It’s all for a great reason! Anchor is a proud Inclusive Employer, we have a commitment to ensuring equal opportunities for all across our organisation. By gathering this data at application stage we can not only arrange any reasonable adjustments to be made for interview but we can also monitor how representative our applications are and where we need to focus to attract underrepresented groups too. Sometimes we get naturally suspicious about giving out data and what it will be used for, but this information is personal and confidential – it is never used to single an individual out, but rather to give insight into who we attract to work with us so we can make our recruitment process as fair and inclusive as possible.

Did you know it takes 20 minutes to build a rapport with a stranger? That’s why it’s important during interviews that you create a two-way dialogue with the interviewer quickly. For our final Ask the Expert in the series, we spoke with Anchor’s Resourcing Manager Euan who gave us the low down on how to nail the interview.
