This week, we've welcomed 11 ambitious graduates who'll be joining us on our various ASPIRE Graduate Programmes to gain an insight into the homebuilding industry. They have an action-packed couple of weeks lined up as they hear from previous graduates, are introduced to various partnership projects and get to know their fellow colleagues. Many of our ex-graduates are in high-flying roles so we look forward to seeing them develop into the leaders of tomorrow.
This month, we're celebrating the ninth birthday of my Barratt benefits, our go-to online hub for employees to manage and browse our many benefits, as well as the support initiatives available for all. From lifestyle benefits such as our Employee Assistance Programme which provides counselling sessions for those who need them, to healthcare benefits with our partners, there's something for everyone.

"It's really great to be recognised for a fourth successive year, and this award is just as special as the first...during my time in the industry I have seen more and more women come in to the profession and David Wilson Homes encourages this by treating everyone equally regardless of their gender. For women looking to join the construction industry I would advise them to treat everybody on site as they would expect to be treated. This is a tough job regardless of gender so they should be prepared to work hard." Congratulations to our Senior Site Manager Zoe from Mickleover, one of our 92 NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award winners, who picked up her fourth consecutive award this year!
Today, we?re delighted to have been awarded the Gold Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) status for our support to the Defence Community. Having achieved the Silver status last year, we?ve worked incredibly hard to make our culture more welcoming and to promote positive policies in the workplace. #GoldERS2020
Over the past week, 86 students on our Sponsored Degree Programme who attend Sheffield Hallam University, took part in a virtual learning week for July. This year we?ve had to adapt our approach and deliver the course through online means. We've provided a mix of reading material, online discussion boards, pre-recorded lectures and live webinar sessions. During this virtual block, students had the opportunity to work both individually and as a team to learn essential skills for success in our industry. In particular, we'd like to congratulate our students who are 18 months into the programme for having achieved either a merit or distinction in their Cert HE qualifications, and our final-year students who have graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Residential Development and Construction with the following grades: 1st x 4 2:1 x 6 2:2 x 1 Find out more about our programmes:
We're honoured that our Armed Forces Transition Programme has been recognised as one of the best in the country - having been shortlisted for the category, Ex-Forces Initiative of the Year, for the British Ex-Forces in Business Awards 2020. This is reflective of the work we put in to make Barratt a welcoming community for those from an Armed Forces background to achieve excellence in their second careers. Well done to all those involved - for more information, please visit:
This year, a fantastic 92 of our site managers won a coveted NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award - our second highest total ever and more than any other housebuilder for a record 16 years in a row. We wanted to celebrate and share the stories of some of our winners - starting with Dane Mumford. After six years with Barratt, Dane has secured his third consecutive award at our Romans' Quarter development in Bingham, in Nottinghamshire. "It's been a pleasure to work in Bingham as it's an excellent location. I've got a great team alongside me and I especially appreciate the support of my Assistant Site Manager, John Carpenter, who's been with me for all three Pride in the Job awards."
As we restart the business, we continue to enjoy welcoming MPs to our sites to see how we’re getting the country building again, safely. Julian Hodder showed Mims Davies MP around Wychwood Park in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, where she saw the measures we’re taking to ensure the safety of our workers and customers. Meanwhile, Simon Francis met Andrew Selous MP for South West Bedfordshire, at Clipstone Park in Leighton Buzzard. Andrew laid the first brick on the newest phase of the popular development and also launched the ‘life during lockdown’ time capsule for residents.
“It’s important for us as a business to be able to support our colleagues who are having physical or mental challenges,” insists David Thomas, CEO.
