The most wonderful time of the year (also known as our annual Peak event) took place this week! On Wednesday and Thursday, we welcomed along our tech suppliers, from SharkNinja and HP to Dyson, with colleagues able to attend talks and product demos to keep them fully up to date ahead of Black Friday and the rest of the festive period. Alongside the latest tech, colleagues could meet some of the People team at the Currys Careers stand, and learn more about growth and development opportunities within the business, as well as the perks and benefits we offer. Colleagues also got the opportunity to connect with representatives from all our ERGs: Embrace, Pride at Currys, Disability at Currys, and the Women's network. It was all rounded off by the annual Amazing People Awards, celebrating our best of the best. It's truly a brilliant event and we're a little sad it's over for another year!
⚽ Big congratulations to Adele and her team in Blackpool for organising a colleague 5-a-side football tournament to raise funds for Trinity Hospice, Blackpool and Brian House Children’s Hospice! ⚽ Adele, General Manager and event organiser, shared: "The evening was a HUGE success! The team enjoyed it immensely, driving work-life balance and engagement through the roof while raising significant funds for charity." Embrace Network is our newest network! 🎉 Its mission is to create a culture where our differences are not just encouraged and celebrated in the workplace but embedded in our respect for colleagues. At our launch event in Waterloo, our incredible team members shared their thoughts: ✨ Kim (left): “Being part of the network is a reminder of just how much we can achieve when we come together.” ✨ Sheena, HR Compliance Manager (second from left): “Embrace is everyone feeling valued. During my time at Currys, we have never done something like this before and it’s super important to be heard. We can learn something new Every. Single. Day!” ✨ Suha, Co-Chair of the Embrace group (right): “We’ve made a conscious effort to include members from all parts of the business in the committee and raise awareness that way. We’re also planning exciting collaborations with other networks, like at the Peak conference, for Black History Month, and a joint event with the Women’s Network in November.” We’re excited about the future and committed to promoting understanding, unity, and equity.
🎉 We're thrilled to announce that Currys has been shortlisted for the Personnel Today Awards in the Health & Wellbeing and Hybrid Working categories! I've been with Currys for 19 years, and being involved in the wellbeing initiatives we've implemented has been the biggest highlight of my career. Seeing it make a difference to someone's mental and physical health just makes such a difference. We, as an organisation, are genuinely committed to it, and it's something we'll always focus on." ames recently celebrated an incredible milestone – 5 years at Currys 🥳! Although he's our Group CEO Business Manager, as the photo shows, he's more than happy to help out in store during busy trading periods, like Black Friday. "I’ve never worked anywhere for so long. I started in Internal Comms, then moved via a secondment to become the Group CEO Business Manager. Since I joined, I’ve helped the business deliver huge transformation. From restructure to rebrand, Covid to a cost-of-living crisis — it’s been hard graft at times but the experience I’ve had has been overwhelmingly fun and challenging (in the best way), and I’ve learned so much." "If you’d have asked me 30 years ago if I thought I’d be working for the CEO of one of the UK’s best-known retailers when I grew up, I don’t think I would ever have imagined it. There’s nothing quite like retail, and nowhere quite like Currys." Here's to many more years of growth, learning, and success! 💜💪
When it comes to helping customers, Duncan’s your man. He's one of our Customer Support Administrators, taking calls from customers when their repair needs special attention. How does he make them happy, call after call? For him it’s a matter of putting himself in their shoes: “You've got to be empathetic; you can resolve issues and get things sorted for the customer, which is always good.” 💫 Got the kind of friendly, helpful approach that other people warm to? Maybe it’s time to join Duncan and his crew in our Newark Campus.
Did you know that our various employee resource groups often get together to exchange ideas on boosting diversity and inclusivity? For example, the Women in Tech group recently got together with Pride at Currys for a valuable group chat and to exchange information. 🌈 Stephen, Co-Chair of the Pride at Currys group, shares: “It was great to hear lots of brilliant questions and suggestions from the team on how to make Currys a more inclusive place for colleagues and customers. And who doesn’t love a homemade pride cookie! Thank you!” 🍪 Sharing, talking, collaborating – *that’s* how we do things at Currys.
