A Remarkable Transformation Recognised with a ‘Good’ Ofsted Rating at Hanson Academy Hanson Academy, in Bradford, is proudly celebrating a “Good” rating in all areas from Ofsted inspectors following their visit in April 2025. This milestone represents a powerful turnaround for a school that, for many years, faced deep-rooted challenges, once known as “the school that nobody wanted.” After spending 11 of the last 15 years effectively in special measures, Hanson began a new chapter when it joined Delta Academies Trust on 1st July 2022. In just under three years, a collective and determined effort from staff, trust leaders and the wider community has reshaped the academy into a calm, inclusive and aspirational learning environment.

The report highlights the academy’s high ambitions for every pupil and its warm, respectful environment where “difference is respected and celebrated.” One of the many strengths highlighted was the school’s commitment to nurturing the whole child. As Ofsted noted, “The school has created an environment that focuses on teaching pupils to be proud of their achievements, both academically and personally.” The school’s personal development curriculum was described as “vibrant and extensive,” offering enriching opportunities that help pupils grow in confidence, character and aspiration. Students from Darton, De Warenne, Garforth, and The Vale Academies are now in their second year of studying Latin Language and Civilisation, working towards their GCSE. While learning about ancient Rome from a textbook offers valuable insights, nothing compares to walking in the footsteps of the Romans themselves! Thanks to the support of The Latin Excellence Programme and funding from The Department for Education, 53 students and 8 staff members had the unforgettable opportunity to experience history firsthand during a four-day residential trip to the Eternal City. Departing in the early hours of Thursday, 27th February, and returning on Monday, 3rd March, the group embarked on a jam-packed adventure that brought Roman history to life. The trip was a journey through time, with students standing in the mighty Colosseum, wandering the ruins of the Roman Forum, and marvelling at the grandeur of the Pantheon. The group also explored the National Roman Museum and the Baths of Diocletian, uncovering ancient artifacts that deepened their appreciation of Roman civilisation. Every moment spent in the heart of Rome was a powerful immersion into the past.
