We’re excited to share a new chapter in our leadership story at Equity Residential - one rooted in thoughtful planning, exceptional talent, and a clear commitment to where we’re headed next as we continue creating communities where people thrive. Chief Investment Officer Alec Brackenridge, who has helped shape our investments platform and team since our 1993 IPO, will transition to Executive Vice President - Investments as he plans for his retirement at the end of 2025. His impact on Equity is lasting, and we’re fortunate to have his continued leadership through this next chapter. Robert Garechana, our Chief Financial Officer since 2018, will assume the role of Chief Investment Officer in August. His deep understanding of our business and passion for data-driven decision-making make him uniquely suited to lead our capital strategy in this next phase of growth. Later this month, Bret McLeod will join us as Executive Vice President - Finance and will take on the role of Chief Financial Officer in August. Bret brings strong experience across public and private companies, and a strategic, people-centered approach that will build on the strengths of our finance team. These transitions aren’t just about roles - they’re about how we lead: with intention, with long-term vision, and with the people who make it all possible. Leveling Up with Emerge 💡 Emerge: Level Up Leadership is our 18-month development experience for standout Community and Service Managers ready to grow into their next chapter. Built on peer learning, the program encourages participants to lead, learn, and stretch together - while staying grounded in their day-to-day roles. From cross-market collaboration to guest speakers and real-time presentations, Emerge creates space for big ideas, shared growth, and leadership in action. Our DC cohort recently celebrated their progress with a dinner full of reflection, appreciation, and laughter. Serving up more than just meals 💗 Every third Thursday, a rotating team of Equity team members in Boston volunteer to prepare and serve dinner for families staying at Christopher’s Haven during their children’s pediatric cancer treatment - sharing not just a meal, but care, comfort, and community. Christopher’s Haven isn’t just a partner – it’s part of our story. For years, we’ve supported their mission through fundraising, volunteering, and providing a home base at our Emerson Place community.
