March is Women’s History Month! Fastly is thrilled to highlight the members of our Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) Employee Resource Group. The mission of WAGE is to drive inclusivity and equality for all women, non-binary, and gender nonconforming individuals at Fastly, acknowledging and celebrating the intersectionality of our identities.
At Fastly, we are proud to recognize and celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth. At this time, we recognize the Black community's achievements and central role in both American and Fastly history, invention, and culture. Throughout #BHM, we will be spotlighting and amplifying the voices and stories of Black Fastlyans, so we encourage you to stay tuned for more! #BlackHeritage #CelebrateBlackHistory
As we wrap up National Hispanic Heritage Month, we asked Fastly’s Deanna Gonzalez Barshop and Estella Gonzalez Madison to share their perspectives on why they chose to identify as Latinx rather than Hispanic. Here’s what they shared: “While these terms are often used interchangeably, they have slightly different connotations. Hispanic largely encompasses the peoples of Spanish-speaking Latin America, many of which were former territories of Spain. Because of its narrow scope and reminder of colonization, we prefer to use Latinx or Latine, both gender-neutral forms of Latino/a. These are more inclusive of both non-Spanish speaking countries and the diversity within the community, including Indigenous peoples, Afro Latinos, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. We want to support those who find themselves excluded from the conversation, those who are looking for a word that includes them. That’s why we chose ‘Ni de aquí, ni de allá’, or ‘not from here, not from there’ to be our theme, to encourage each of us to embrace all of our identities and our own authentic selves."
