Highlights from the TTPCambridge Half Marathon event that we sponsored on Sunday 6th March 2022. What a privilege to be supporting such a great event. And we can't wait to do it all again next year!
Earlier this month, 9 members of Gearset embarked on a hackathon. We rented a house in the British countryside, away from the distractions of daily working life, and focused our energy on building one specific feature. At the end of 5 days, we hoped to have a working prototype that we could show our customers, and ship it shortly after. We decided to focus on delivering the 4 key DORA metrics, which have become a universal standard to measure DevOps performance: Deployment frequency, lead time for changes, time to restore, and change failure rate. These are a crucial way for team leads and managers to understand both the resilience and the velocity of their release pipeline. The hackathon was an amazing experience to come together and work really closely on a shared goal. To find out more on what was delivered from the hackathon, and the outcome of the week, take a look at the full article.
Since launching in 2015, Gearset has seen its customer base and headcount grow year on year. To support our continued growth, we're pleased to announce we're expanding our global presence by opening a new office in the tech hub of Belfast. Making sure we have talented people doing their best work has been the bedrock of our success so far, and is fundamental to the continued success of our company in the future. Belfast is rapidly becoming an exciting tech hub for talent and innovation, and we're confident that it's the best place to open our next office for software engineers. Our very own CEO Kevin Boyle also graduated from QUB in 2008, and since starting the company in 2015, he's wanted to bring Gearset to Belfast because he knows first-hand just how great the talent is there. On Sunday 6th March, a team from Gearset took on the challenge of running 13.1 miles around our home town to complete the Cambridge Half Marathon, supported by a whole host of team members from all over Gearset cheering them on. Sarah Dewsbruy, Head of People said: “Many of the team had a real passion for running, and we wanted to support this as a company. Partnering with the Cambridge Half Marathon was a great way of showing our support for our team, as it meant they were able to take part in the event, and we could be there on the day to support them. “It’s been great seeing the true Gearset team spirit come to life even more within the company through this event. Some of the team taking on the challenge were new to running, and were inspired by colleagues to take part. So they all pulled together to encourage each other with group training runs and sharing running tips on our internal slack channel. “Through the partnership, we were also able to support two amazing local charities, Jimmy’s Night Shelter, and Romsey Mill, who are both doing incredible work in the local area."
On Wednesday the 9th Feb, we welcomed Customer Success professionals from far and wide to the first Customer Success Network Cafe Cambridge at The Bradfield Centre in Cambridge. The CSN cafe is designed for Customer Success professionals at all stages of their career, to meet, discuss challenges, and share best practises in a relaxed setting over drinks and food. For our first Cambridge cafe, we were joined by Marija Skobe-Pilley, host of the Women in Customer Success podcast who shared some great insights from her experience of what makes a successful CSM. We asked Luke Harris, VP of Customer Success at Gearset, what he made of the event. “Hosting the first CSN Cafe in Cambridge was a real thrill. Marija’s ‘9 traits for a great CSM’ were so powerful, and the feedback I had after the event was universally positive. Having a leader like Marija break down the core attributes undoubtedly helped everyone in the room really focus on development areas - plus we had fun doing it!" The next CSN Cafe Cambridge event will be on the 18th May at The Bradfield Centre, Cambridge.
This summer, six university students took on a 10-week internship at Gearset. I'm the marketing intern, and the other five interns are software engineers. As our internship comes to a close, we thought we'd have a final catchup to reflect on our time at Gearset and share our experiences!
