After a tough year in the industry, our team had some well-deserved down time and enjoyed our annual summer party last week. A huge thank you to all our people for their continuous hard work and dedication to Good Energy and our wonderful customers. 💛

Tom joined us as a Customer Service Specialist (Clean Energy) in October 2021 after graduating from the University of Bristol. We spoke to him to find out what attracted him to this position. "I wanted to work for a company that focused on protecting the environment. I came across Good Energy, which offers 100% renewable energy to all its customers, and I knew it was a positive organisation. Aside from learning so much about the renewable energy industry, I’ve also learned invaluable skills such as how to manage workloads and provide excellent customer service. Good Energy's drive to protect the environment aligns with my personal mission to begin a career in sustainability and through the customer operations role, I have been able to dive straight into the deep end and become a face of Good Energy that customers interact with." We're currently hiring, including for Customer Service Specialists (Clean Energy), so If you're looking for a career in a purpose-driven organisation, have a look at our careers page:.
For National Apprenticeship Week, we're sharing some stories. Today we meet Sean Murden, one of our Squad Leads in our Business team. Sean is studying a Level 3 Team Leader / Supervisor apprenticeship at Wiltshire College. He started in March 2021 and finishes in September this year. “My apprenticeship gives me the wider experience and knowledge for many aspects of being a manager to support my role. It allows me to understand what to do in each situation when the time arises. Having the qualification at the end will help show I have this experience and know the theory behind it. I have just finished writing up an assessment booklet after studying the subject for a few weeks just as that same subject pops up in my day-to-day role. It's useful to be studying a subject as you are currently working on it. Good Energy has supported me by allowing me to work on my apprenticeship during work hours. If I didn’t have the opportunity to work it this way I think it's safe to say I wouldn’t be able to do the course in my own time, especially now that I am a parent. It’s been a massive help.”
Last week it was Random Acts of Kindness Day, so we encouraged our people to write an appreciation note for their colleagues and stick it on their desks. We’re proud to have such great people and a great working culture, where everyone is appreciated. Always Be Kind 💚
Amy's Development Journey: Amy joined Good Energy as a Business Account Manager in October 2018 before moving into her new role as a Talent Acquisition Coordinator in September 2021. Here’s what she had to say about her development journey: “I’ve always been determined to grow and push myself and I saw this role as an opportunity to forward my development as well as helping others with theirs. I feel I have always been able to quickly identify people’s strengths so to have an opportunity to utilise this skill to help hiring managers find their perfect match and help candidates realise their potential is something I couldn’t pass on. When I expressed an interest in developing into a People & Culture role, I was given full support; this support from my manager definitely helped with my career progression. They always pointed me in the right direction in terms of my questions on how to develop and progress and whom to ask to get the best response."
We’re the only supplier awarded ‘Gold’ in Uswitch’s new green accreditation scheme! Earlier this year, our electricity and gas tariffs were judged as ‘market leading in their environmental credentials’ by an independent panel for Uswitch for its ground-breaking new accreditation scheme for energy tariffs. The Uswitch Green Accreditation categorises green energy tariffs into Bronze, Silver and Gold. Good Energy is currently the only supplier awarded Gold accreditation. This is a watershed moment for tackling greenwashing – customers are now able to see how genuinely green suppliers are!
Holly's Development Journey: Holly joined us almost 10 years working in our FIT team, before moving to a Business Analyst role and more recently into the position of a Product Owner for our IT & Digital team. Here’s what she had to say about her development: “Here’s what helped me progress and what I’d recommend to others: • I asked colleagues what courses were relevant and signed up for these. I took any chance for mentoring positions and monthly catchups with my manager helped me push forward. • Be known - I try and say yes or support new initiatives as much as I can, for me, that’s meant promoting IT through Code clubs and events, joining learning online or in-person and lunchtime sports, these are some of the easiest ways to meet people from across the company. • Good Energy is focused on agile ways of working, particularly for project work, so have a look at what that means and try identifying areas of improvement in your role, volunteer to support IT changes, or document processes.”
