Our 2017 Progress Report gives an insight into what we have been up to this year, and how we think we are doing. We share some of the exciting things we've launched, like our Electric Vehicle Tariff; and introduce some of the amazing businesses we are working with - such as Neal's Yard Remedies and Lick the Spoon. What's more, there's a big focus on what we do to make local energy models a reality, including our work to date with the Smart Fintry project and our peer-to-peer trading platform, Selectricity. We also share everything we are doing as a business to make a positive impact: on the environment through our renewable electricity and our Green Gas; and on our people and our local communities. This desire to do Good over arches every way we do business. Thank you for supporting us on our journey so far. This report celebrates what we’ve achieved, but our sights are set firmly on the future to ensure we can achieve even more Good things. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQjNF
Good Energy is partnering with Honda, Upside Energy and Salford University on a new vehicle-to-grid (V2G)—and ‘vehicle-to-home’—project which will test how electric vehicle batteries and other battery storage units can impact home efficiency. Funded by Innovate UK, the new project will take advantage of Salford University’s unique testing facility, Energy House, which is the only full-scale building in an environmental chamber in Europe. Named ‘HAVEN’, it will explore the use of electric vehicle (EV) batteries to provide flexibility to the energy system within the context of other systems in the home, such as batteries attached to solar panel arrays, heating and hot water systems. Juliet Davenport, CEO and Founder of Good Energy, said: “EVs, battery storage, V2G and now vehicle-to-home are all technologies that will be part of a decentralised energy system of the future. This project uses Salford University’s Energy House, which means that we can truly see the impact for people’s homes, and their lives."
Smart technology is a really big area for us as we move into 2018. This means a focus on battery storage, smart meters and electric vehicles. That's why we are really pleased to announce a new pilot agreement with NewMotion. NewMotion is Europe’s largest provider of electric vehicle charging solutions, with a public network of over 50,000 charge points across 25 countries. "We’re delighted to be working with NewMotion to diversify our offering and invest further in our electric vehicle capabilities." Dr Randall Bowen, Director of Business Services at Good Energy.
At Good Energy we’re always talking about being local - we’ve included it in our guide to becoming eco-friendly, and we love telling our customers that they’re an average of 3.86 miles away from one of our renewable generators. But perhaps we haven’t always been clear on exactly why choosing local is best when it comes to choosing an energy supplier. Simply put - there are lots of reasons to choose local energy! If you’re someone who wants to support the creation of a better, more sustainable future, then local is part of the solution. 2017 may have been the greenest year for electricity ever in the UK, but as recently as 2015, a report by the International Energy Agency found that four-fifths of the energy that goes directly into energy supplies around the world comes from fossil fuels. We all know by now that this continued reliance on ‘dirty’ methods of energy generation isn’t sustainable for lots of reasons. This is why, in our new report, we ask: ‘What’s the real cost of fossil fuels?’ To highlight and explain the relationships between these problem areas and how they tie into the wider climate chane spoke to experts from organisations including the NHS and World Wildlife Fund, who work to combat these issues every day. Our report isn’t all doom and gloom though, as here at Good Energy we’re very much about providing a solution to the climate change problem. As our CEO Juliet Davenport concludes: “It’s about thinking across the board holistically and coming up with new thoughts about what we can really do as society going forwards.” http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQj7p
