Project Spotlight: Bayman’s Cottage, Fire Island H2M is performing a renovation and addition to an existing shingle style cape constructed in 1911, referred to as the Bayman’s Cottage, on Fire Island. Part of the alteration includes relocating and lifting the existing cottage onto a new pile foundation along with construction of a new first floor. The structure has historical impact within the local Fire Island neighborhoods and is one of two residences on the 1/3 acre property. Site challenges include variations of terrain within and outside of multiple flood zones, as well as site accessibility for construction. H2M has worked diligently to maintain zoning restrictions related to building heights, setbacks, and lot coverage for the proposed cottage alterations, in addition to new sprawling decks, walkways, and 60’ lap pool. Construction is currently underway with the lifting of the existing cottage and driving of timber piles. #H2M #projectspotlight #architecture

Celebrating the holidays at H2M architects + engineers means giving back to the community to make sure that everyone is able to celebrate. As we celebrate the holidays with friends, family and coworkers, H2Mers take the time to give back to our communities to help those in need feel the spirit of the holidays. H2M's Women’s Leadership Employee Resource Group partnered with PSEG Long Island LLC's Power On group to support the Angel Tree program for the Salvation Army in Riverhead, NY to “adopt a child” and purchase special presents from wish lists for kids in need. Each group raised money and volunteered their time to make purchases. This scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and character to an individual who is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree at a College/University in the field of Urban Planning/Development. Jeff Janota, AICP, PP was a dedicated Urban Planner who directed our Parsippany, New Jersey Planning Department from 2013 until his untimely passing in 2021. Jeff’s career focused on ways to improve the community and the lives of the residents through implementing both practical and well established planning principles.
