February 11th is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The theme for International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2023 is “Innovate. Demonstrate. Elevate. Advance. I.D.E.A.: Bringing communities Forward for sustainable and equitable development.” This theme is near and dear to H2M’s Vision, “We exist to improve the quality of life for everyone in our reach by empowering our diverse talent to sustainably solve challenges of the built environment.” H2M’s Women’s Leadership ERG wants to give a big THANK YOU to H2M’s Women in Science for their contributions to this theme and H2M’s Vision. H2M has an array of women scientists within several of our disciplines; including but not limited to Environmental, Water and Waste Water. These women are involved in the full life cycle of H2M projects ranging from the initiation to closing phases. It’s Wednesday and H2M continues celebrating 90 years! Chief Human Resource Officer, Liz Uzzo, SHRM-SCP, SPHR shares her experience with H2M and what this company means to her! We asked Liz how the growth of H2M impacted her career, she told us, “Personally, it was when I was asked to be a shareholder in 1998 and then an officer of the firm. I’ve been able to move up in the firm by showing my value and taking advantage of learning opportunities. Starting as a Payroll Clerk and moving up in the organization, Personnel Administrator, Director of HR, CHRO and Exec VP. I truly believe if you really want something, and you work hard and show your value, you can get it at H2M.” Liz reflected on a few accomplishments that occurred during her career at H2M, and she expressed, “Two events come to mind. First, was that I was able to work with H2M's founders (Bob, Sam, and Norman). Each so unique and passionate about what H2M does. Last week, H2M architects + engineers held a graduation for our company wide mentorship program. H2M mentors and mentees were paired in this 6-month long program. Each mentor/mentee was given training, encouraged to meet consistently and build trusting relationships where mentors provided guidance and advice to their mentee on a wide variety of topics both professional and personal. The mentors say they gained as much from this program as the mentees. H2M values investing in our employees and the success of this program is key to the growth and future of the firm.
