Did you know it was #STEMday yesterday? In honour of that, we chatted with Jakia, one of our Customer Build engineers, about what gets her out of bed in the morning after working at Hyperoptic for two years. "Working at Hyperoptic is a whole bunch of things - all good, of course! As someone who works out on the field as a Customer Build engineer, it’s fun, and hands-on working as a team When people see that I’m a girl working on the tools, they are still quite shocked. I know it’s not what people are used to seeing. I’m proud to be working to change that, I feel a sense of accomplishment wowing people just by doing what I love. During the hiring process, Hyperoptic didn’t judge me based on classroom grades alone - which at the end of the day, don’t define my ability and capability. I hadn’t come across this before when applying for roles at other companies and it felt like they looked beyond to see my potential. Since being here, I’ve felt really supported in building my career and am exactly where I want to be. I’ve developed my skills and built my character in the process, too.
"Working at Hyperoptic was, and still is, the best move I've made in my 8-year career in telecoms." Rodney, a lead customer build engineer, joined us almost two years ago and we're proud that we've been his best career decision. "I get the best support from my managers, which is especially useful when every day is so different! Everyone works together so well as a team - if you need help, there's always someone to lend a hand."
Join our award-winning team! We're looking for a customer installation resource coordinator to join our Belgrade team, your mission will be to work within a team to optimise customer experience by maximising Engineer capacity and efficiency in any live day. Find out more about the role here:
What's career progression like at Hyperoptic? We'll defer to Alan on our building installation team for this one: "I have a clear path of progression mapped out, but I don't feel it's the only route if I do want to steer in a different direction. With the learning and development options available, I can self-improve in other areas at my own pace - and I am constantly learning new skills!" He then left us with this great bit of advice, "it's never as scary outside your comfort zone as you imagine".
