What does meaningful early career development actually look like? In our latest Becoming Informed blog, Colette Marshall reflects on her journey from practitioner to Lead user-centred design consultant, and how that progression was shaped through hands-on delivery, collaboration, and the opportunity to work on projects with real-world impact. From developing across different areas of user-centred design to supporting the growth of others across teams, this perspective offers a view of how careers can evolve through meaningful work, responsibility, and continuous learning. It is also a reminder that career development is influenced by the people around us and the opportunities we are afforded.
It's so important where we choose to build our career. That choice influences the kind of problems we take on, the people we learn from, and how quickly we are given the trust and responsibility to develop and grow. At Informed, this means contributing to Tech for Good programmes that have a positive real-world impact, tackle complex challenges that require critical thinking and problem-solving, and work in a collaborative environment with supportive teams and strong leadership. In this video, Colette Marshall reflects on her journey from practitioner to Lead user-centred design consultant, sharing how she progressed through everyday access to people, talent, and meaningful contributions to delivery opportunities that make a real difference.
It was a real highlight to once again bring colleagues together for Informed Solutions' annual company conference, where we returned to HOME Cinema in Manchester and enjoyed a fantastic evening. Bringing together all our colleagues gave us the chance to pause and reflect on a year defined by innovation, collaboration, and delivery with real-world impact. More importantly, it allowed us to celebrate the people behind that success, recognising the commitment, resilience, and achievements that continue to drive Informed Solutions forward. The conference was also a moment to look ahead. As we continue to scale, enter new markets, and build strong, mutually beneficial partnerships in the UK and beyond, we reaffirmed what sits at the heart of what we do: high-value, high-impact, trust-based innovation that delivers meaningful outcomes for our clients. Above all, it was about our people and celebrating personal growth, shared success, and the collective impact we’re having in helping to make the world a smarter, safer, cleaner, and healthier place.
A fantastic evening with colleagues from our London office at Flight Club Darts. It was a chance to enjoy some friendly competition, great food and a relaxed setting together, while reflecting on and celebrating everything we've already achieved this year. As we continue to grow across London, Manchester, Leeds, and Edinburgh, we're excited to welcome new colleagues to our journey - working for great clients and balancing that with fun along the way. As the year draws to a close, it was a real highlight to once again bring colleagues together for our annual Informed Solutions Winter Conference, where we returned to HOME Cinema in Manchester with plenty of festive spirit along the way. A fitting way to close out the year - aligned, energised, and ready for what’s to come in 2026.
We recently held our annual ‘Stepping Up and Stepping In’ celebration - one of our favourite moments in the year, where we come together to welcome our newest graduates and recognise those who have just completed their two-year associateship journey. It was brilliant to meet our new graduate cohort, share their passions, and talk about what excites them as they begin their careers with us. Over the next two years, they’ll rotate through different projects and disciplines, build meaningful digital skills, and work on impactful #tech4good transformation projects across the UK and internationally. We can’t wait to support them as they grow, learn, and find the areas that inspire them most, and we eagerly anticipate the fresh ideas they will bring to our engagements. We also celebrated our graduates who have now successfully completed their associateships and stepped into permanent practitioner roles. Hearing their line managers talk about their achievements - and then hearing the graduates themselves reflect on the projects they've contributed to and the skills they’ve built - was a genuine highlight. They’ve each worked on a diverse mix of client challenges during their time on the programme, and it’s fantastic to see them now becoming mentors and role models for the next group.
In our latest Becoming Informed feature, Technical Consultant Amber Munn shares her inspiring journey into digital consultancy - proving that it’s never too late to start a new career path. After studying Graphic Design and later completing a Master’s in UX Design, Amber joined Informed Solutions’ Graduate Associateship in her late twenties. Despite initial worries about starting later than most, she soon discovered that her creative background, life experience, and people-focused mindset were powerful assets. “I once thought I had ‘no experience’ relevant to consultancy, but I’ve learned that so much is transferable. The skills I developed in university, hospitality, and retail - like problem-solving, teamwork, and communication - all set me up for success. Taking the leap a little later in life isn’t a weakness - it’s a strength.” As a Technical Consultant, Amber now works on high-impact digital transformation projects that help make our world smarter, safer, cleaner, and healthier. Her story is a reminder that the path into tech isn’t one-size-fits-all, and that every experience brings unique value.
Celebrating Women In Engineering on Ada Lovelace Day! At Informed Solutions, we're proud of our Women in Engineering group, which meets regularly to build community, raise awareness, and create a more inclusive environment for women in tech. The group fosters connection through mentorship, experience sharing, and opportunities for collaboration. According to a 2024 Diversity in Tech report, in the UK: • Only 20% of software engineers are women or non-binary. • Just 21% of senior tech role holders are women. These stats remind us how important it is to keep pushing for change and to continue celebrating the influential women shaping our sector. We marked Ada Lovelace Day with a quiz, bringing together colleagues across our teams to celebrate the incredible contributions of women in engineering and technology. The quiz was based around prominent women in tech, both past and present. Named in honour of Ada Lovelace, widely regarded as the world’s first computer programmer, the day is a reminder of the trailblazers who have shaped our industry and the importance of supporting the next generation of women in these fields. Huge thanks to everyone who took part and made the event such a success, and congratulations to our quiz winners!
Supporting our charity partner, The Abbey Centre, our Charities Team hosted Informed’s very own Great British Bake Off in our Manchester and London offices, encouraging everyone to bring their best bakes and compete for the coveted Bake Off apron prize! It was a real treat to see and taste the creative bakes made by our very own Informed bakers, and we are even more proud to have raised support for The Abbey Centre. The Abbey Centre delivers vital community services in South Westminster, creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment that strengthens community health and cohesion by providing spaces, services, and opportunities for those who need them most.
Celebrating Our 2024-25 Placement Students – Past, Present & Future We recently had the pleasure of celebrating the incredible contribution of our class of 2024–2025 placement students. Their energy, commitment, and curiosity have left a lasting mark across our digital transformation projects, and we couldn’t be prouder of all they’ve achieved. As is Informed tradition, our latest placement cohort joined the event, connecting with those who’ve gone before them. It was inspiring to hear reflections from the outgoing group, with stories of growth, lessons learned, and standout moments, as well as their thoughtful advice for those just starting out. Looking ahead, we’re excited to support our new students as they begin their journey with us. With ambitious goals and a strong desire to learn, they're already bringing enthusiasm to their respective squads. We're committed to helping them build skills, gain experience, and contribute to projects that make the world smarter, safer, cleaner, and healthier. To our departing placement students, we say a huge thank you. We wish you all the best with the rest of your studies, and we look forward to crossing paths again soon.
