Kristy Ireland, a Graduate Systems Engineer at Leonardo, was one of the young people responsible for organising a recent sector-wider event that raised awareness and celebrated neurodiversity. Kristy is the Events Lead for the ADS New Professionals Forum (NPF). ADS is the trade association for the UK aerospace, defence and security sector and one of the NPF’s key objectives for 2023 is to identify and diversify forum’s reach, representation and knowledge across areas of under-represented talent.
As part of its wide-ranging sustainability commitments, Leonardo has signed up to the Defence Aviation Net Zero Strategy, which was released on 12 July at the Global Air & Space Chiefs' Conference and signed at the Royal International Air Tattoo over the past weekend. The Defence Aviation Net Zero Strategy outlines the steps necessary to meet the commitment to decarbonise the defence sector’s aviation capability, whilst also mitigating potential risks to operational effectiveness that are likely to arise because of climate change. It provides an important advantage, enabling robust, resilient operations through a collaborative framework led jointly by the Royal Air Force and industry.
Leonardo has launched a new research partnership with the National Innovation Centre for Data (NICD), hosted by Newcastle University. This follows the company's announcement in February that it will be bringing 200 jobs to Newcastle city centre with the opening of its eighth UK site.
