This summer, we launched a #DiversityChampion Summer Internship Program in Hong Kong in collaboration with Herbert Smith Freehills and Hyatt Hotels Corporation. The interactive program is the first cross-industry internship of its kind in Hong Kong, and aims to provide students with exposure to different industries and career paths, all while promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace.
Last week, Megan Kaiser, Director, Business Process Improvement at John Hancock, won the 2021 Margaret Divver Leadership Award for her efforts and commitment to the advancement of women in the workplace. Megan shared some thoughts with us on the importance of celebrating this day and carrying the spirit of it in everything we do year round, as well as how her experience at John Hancock and as part of our Global Women's Alliance employee resource group has helped shape her career.
Meet Cara, Director of Product Development, who has accomplished many things in the DEI space with us. In 2017, she was a founding member and the co-chair of VIBE (Valuing the Inclusion of Black Experiences) to support the advancement and development of black employees. Since 2018, she’s been a member of the GWA (Global Women’s Alliance) as a committee member, successfully planning many events such as their annual year end event and International Women’s Week, that help to close the gender gap and promote the advancement of women. “I think there’s something special about being part of a transformation from the ground up, and Manulife has allowed me to do that”. Every day, we’re helping to build a more digital and innovative industry. From five-star apps to frictionless transactions, we’re developing next-generation capabilities for all our stakeholders. As a Technology Project Specialist, Rhys Hollis is working on automating our new employee onboarding process, building best in class portals and API’s with the goal of creating a great ‘First 100 Day’ employee experience. It’s just one of the ways that we’re continuously innovating. Work with us.
Congratulations to our very own Michelle Taylor-Jones on being included in Get Konnected!'s list of Boston's Most Impactful Black Women. Michelle joined us in October 2020 as our Global Vice President - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Please join us in congratulating Michelle on this well-deserved recognition.
At Manulife, we stand against all racial discrimination. In order for us to #FightRacism as a company, we must hold ourselves and our employees accountable and ensure they are equipped with tools for ongoing learning. Eliminating racism starts with you, be open to educating yourself. Following International Women's Day, we wanted to showcase our co-chairs for the Global Women’s Alliance (GWA) Indonesia, Caroline and Linawati. Their goal is to provide support to female employees, not only throughout their careers but also in balancing various priorities at work and at home. They provide regular events every month with different topics such as leadership, communication, networking, health and family. We asked our co-chairs what the most fulfilling event they’ve worked on is and why. “During 2020 we were able to still conduct many events including hosting some amazing guest speakers. We were able to invite Fifi Aleyda, a national TV news broadcaster, to share her expertise on best practices for strong communication and networking. She shared an abundance of important tips and useful information to improve our communication skills. Moreover, we also hosted Sachin Shah, General Manager of Emerging Markets in Asia, to talk about leadership. Sachin outlined his view on leadership and the importance of networking, especially during COVID-19.”
Happy #InternationalWomensDay! A time to celebrate the incredible women leaders and colleagues across Manulife who inspire, influence and impact our organization every day. Year-round, we continue to work towards creating an inclusive and equitable organization for everyone. #ChoosetoChallenge #IWD2021
For the fourth year running we’ve been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers 2021. This award is based on us having successful diversity initiatives for women, members of visible minorities, persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, and those who identify as LGBTQ . We’re proud to foster an inclusive environment where we encourage every employee to bring their authentic selves to work.
It's #BlackHistoryMonth, a time to celebrate Black culture and the achievements of the Black community, while recognizing the barriers faced to get there. As a company, we are dedicated to continuously making strides towards our goals for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). In the past year, we announced our goals to increase BIPOC recruitment and leadership representation, signed two pledges – the The BlackNorth Initiative in Canada and the CEO For Action in the US – and kicked off the 14th year of the MLK Scholars program. This month we will be highlighting Black employees who exemplify leadership towards our DEI mission and reflect on Black leaders who made history at our company.
