Here are your weekly insights from Viacom’s Talent Acquisition team. This week, Leisha Shorey, our lead creative recruiter for production, offers interviewing tips and advice. Q: Can you tell us more about how you evaluate competency? A: We often provide candidates with assignments to evaluate their sensibility, approach and overall chops. We may provide a couple of cuts from different shows that we may be developing or we’re considering, and we’ll have them write notes as to how they would develop and improve the work. Evaluating sensibility is important because each of our brands is so distinctive. It’s not a one size fits all by any means.
Congratulations to our executives from across the company who were included in the Imagen Foundation's annual list of Powerful and Influential Latinos in Entertainment! We're excited to see Christine Benitez, Charlotte Castillo, Jose Castro, Nina Diaz, Tanya Giles, Anita Ortiz, Anhelo Reyes, Chachi Senior, Mireille Soria and Jose Tolosa recognized for their hard work and leadership. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQxzq
"The hunger for original content gets greater every year" and Viacom is satisfying that need by developing more original content, creating new experiences across platforms and producing more for third parties. Today, our Viacom International Studios division has become one of the top producers and distributors to third parties of Spanish-originated formats and content around the world. Here are your weekly insights from Viacom’s Talent Acquisition team. This week, Leisha Shorey, our lead creative recruiter for production, offers interviewing tips and advice. Q: What kind of questions do you generally ask during an interview? Are they behavioral-based? A: We tend to ask a mix of behavioral and competency-based questions, as well as try to test their sensibility for the brand. If somebody’s coming into MTV, I usually will ask, ‘If I handed you the key to the kingdom, what would you be doing? What do you like that we’re doing? What do you not like? What would you change? What buckets would you be developing in?’ I look for responses that align or complement the brand strategy, or something that is completely off but is really interesting. I flag talent like that because those different ideas could potentially elevate the brand as well.
