Here are your weekly insights from Viacom’s Talent Acquisition team. This week, Michael Pitta, our lead tech recruiter, offers insights on what to expect from a tech interview at Viacom. Q: Could you walk us through the different phases of a tech interview at Viacom? A: First Round - Chat with myself or the other recruiters on the team. The intent is for us to learn a little bit more about the projects that interest the candidates. For the candidate, it’s to learn more about the company and the role. Second Round - We’ll conduct a technical interview while also giving the candidates an opportunity to chat with the hiring managers. That’s typically done via a phone screen or video interview. Third Round - We’ll move onto our on-site. That is usually when we’ll go into our longer technical interview, often involving writing code, while also meeting with the team about the projects they’ve worked on and comparing experiences. That is typically the last step of the interview experience for software engineers.
Here are your weekly insights from Viacom’s Talent Acquisition team. This week, Michael Pitta, our lead tech recruiter, offers interviewing tips and advice. Q: How important are soft skills for technical roles? A: It’s very important - communication is key. We are a creative company, so candidates will be working with different teams. We do have engineers that are strictly coding all the time, but sometimes even our engineers are in meetings presenting ideas. During these times, it’s crucial that they know how to take really technical terms and break them down in a way that someone not in tech can understand. Being able to clearly communicate what their work will help solve from a business standpoint can put them on a growth trajectory through the company and through their career. Passion is also big. I like to ask an engineer what projects they like working on, or a project they’re proud of. When they can come across with a lot of passion that they can solve a really hard problem, you know that they’re going to be a great fit for the team.
Welcome to the family, Awesomeness!
