Here are your weekly insights from Viacom’s Talent Acquisition team. This week, Michael Pitta, our lead tech recruiter, offers interviewing tips and advice. Q: What advice do you have for people in tech to prep for the interview? A: In an interview, we look at high-level problem-solving skills by putting candidates through a technical review. To prepare, I tell engineers to always review their algorithms and their data structures. Especially if you’re an engineer who hasn’t interviewed recently, you might not be doing that day-to-day as much anymore. Most importantly: Don’t get frustrated if you get stuck on something. A lot of your interview is going to be assessing your ability to go through these hard problems and knowing when to ask for help. Part of our engineering culture is that it’s very collaborative. We don’t want someone that’s very stubborn and is going to brute-force their way into a problem. We want someone that knows how to work with another engineer and ask a question, get a hint, and not have an ego when it comes to getting stuck on something.
