“The truth is that any company needs a blend of talent to ensure they reach the best outcomes. Creating an inclusive and supportive environment is good for all people, not just women.” On International Women in Engineering Day, The Engineer caught up with our CEO Dame Dawn Childs DBE FREng to discuss her longstanding career in engineering. From the importance of visible role models in engineering and the advice she’d give to her 18-year-old self, to raising awareness of newer industries such as data centres, Dame Dawn shares her views on why the inclusion theme of this year's International Women in Engineering Day, hashtag#TogetherWeEngineer, has been a driving force throughout her entire career – and how we can do better. At Pure DC, we know that sustainability is not a one-time achievement – it’s a continual process of improvement, partnership and accountability. Our Silver rating from EcoVadis, the globally recognised sustainability ratings platform, reflects our commitment to responsible and sustainable business practices. Even more encouraging is the progress behind the rating: we’ve moved from the 84th percentile to 91st percentile in our industry group. But our sustainability journey doesn’t stop with our own operations. We’ve now embedded EcoVadis into our supplier due diligence process, helping us make more informed, values-aligned decisions about who we partner with. hashtag#PurePotential hashtag#Sustainability hashtag#ResponsibleBusiness

Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting an event for friends and business partners at the Gold Medal-winning She Grows Veg Ltd 'Grow The Rainbow' exhibit at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show 2025, alongside our climate subsidiary, A Healthier Earth. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time with guests from the London Boroughs of Brent and Barnet, SEGRO plc, Earthwatch Europe and the Blenheim Estate. We were able to share the story behind our Brent Cross data centre - a project that’s demonstrating, through partnership with future-focused local authorities, how building and operating digital infrastructure doesn’t need to come at the expense of local communities and the environment. After the show, the beautiful exhibit of heirloom vegetables will be donated to Seeds for Growth charity’s community gardens across several London boroughs, extending its impact far beyond Chelsea. We’re delighted to be working with Seeds for Growth to develop a further two new school gardens in Brent — bringing much needed green space to children living in urban areas and helping them learn about gardens, nature and biochar.
At the Data Centre Magazine Data Centre LIVE event, our CEO Dame Dawn Childs DBE FREng shared her views on how nations will need to invest in purpose-built, sovereign data centres that protect critical intellectual property while also enabling the AI and cloud capabilities required to drive the next generation of technology. Hear more from Dame Dawn on why she believes that for industries where stakes are high, such as healthcare, finance, and defence, where a single data breach could be catastrophic, sovereign data centres are not just a benefit - they’re a necessity. hashtag#AI hashtag#DataSovereignty hashtag#PurePotential hashtag#DataCentres

🌻We're bringing carbon capture to She Grows Veg Ltd's exhibit at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show 2025! 🌷 As the climate tech R&D arm of Pure Data Centres Group, A Healthier Earth is proud to be providing biochar compost to support the healthy growth of the inspiring veg varieties for this vibrant exhibit. As a peat-free soil additive, biochar delivers powerful environmental benefits: 🌱 Captures and stores carbon 🌱Boosts plant health 🌱 Improves urban soil 🌱Helps gardens adapt to a changing climate Developed from organic waste through pyrolysis, biochar not only locks away carbon for centuries — it's also a ready-to-use, nature-based solution that enhances soil quality in cities and farms alike. As our Chief R&D Officer, Alastair Collier said: "We want to show that a scalable alternative to peat is available and ready to use. Biochar is currently the most purchased form of carbon removal technology worldwide, but for it to realise its full potential, we need to see it in gardens and on farming land across the country to improve soil health and quality.”
🌐 A Healthier Earth & Pure Data Centres Group at FOOTPRINT+: The UK Property Event for a Zero Carbon Future. We're excited to share that Sam Grady, Director of Strategy at A Healthier Earth, will be speaking on the Zero Carbon Energy Stage at Footprint+ this Wednesday, 14 May, alongside Martin Wright, Chief Architect at Pure Data Centres Group. 💡 Sam and Martin are joining an expert panel to explore a bold question: What role do data centres play in our future cities? With their status as critical national infrastructure, data centres have potential to do more than just store information — they could heat thousands of homes and even double as vertical gardens, boosting urban greening and biodiversity. As these buildings become fixtures in our cityscapes, how can we reimagine them as hubs of sustainability and community life? 📍 Don’t miss out on this insightful conversation alongside our partner Viritopia and expert designers from studioNWA and Scott Brownrigg
Rome wasn’t built in a day, but our Tiny Forests were planted in one. In April, the Pure DC team rolled up their sleeves with Barnet Council and Earthwatch Europe to plant 1,800 trees and grow three Tiny Forests in Finchley — all in a single day. These green spaces will boost local biodiversity and provide long-term benefits for the community. Sustainability is central to our mission. From planning the world’s largest living wall to supporting cutting-edge techniques like biochar and vertical farming through our A Healthier Earth initiative, we’re investing in a greener future — one tree (or 1,800 trees) at a time.
