Our vision is to create communities where everyone has a safe home in a place they are proud to live. And our new strategy has been designed to deliver just that. We heard from over 5,000 residents alongside hundreds of Southern Housing colleagues, and what we were told helped us to identify our three top priorities as we move towards 2030. These are: 1. To improve our repairs service 2. Achieve top marks against the Regulator’s consumer standards 3. Restore our finances. As we celebrate our 125th year, our strategy looks to ensure that we can continue our legacy of providing homes for those in housing need, now and long into the future. 🎥Watch our video below to hear how we'll do this. 🔗Or read the plan in full here on our website: www.southernhousing.org.uk/Strategy
This Sunday we remember those who lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire. Our thoughts are with them, the survivors, and the families. Never forgotten 💚
We're thankful to all colleagues and partners who turned out to help us clear litter at Milton Creek Country Park, in Sittingbourne, Kent. It was alarming to see how much rubbish had been discarded in this beautiful public space - including a frying pan, fishing line and a whole load of plastic. The event was led by our Sustainability Team who are actively working to improve and increase biodiversity in open spaces for our residents and the surrounding communities.
We were delighted to welcome the children of our colleagues into our Kent Office for Bring Your Child to Work Day. The event, hosted by our Parents and Carers Network, was a chance for children to see what their parents did for work - and have a bit of fun at the same time. Hannah Easton, Chair of the Parents and Carers Network, said: "I love that I work for someone who respects that I do have that personal life and I have those caring responsibilities, and I can manage both thanks to the company. Jemma Robertson, Co-Chair, added "We want to let everyone know about flexible working and how we can achieve that and be parents. We can have all of this and make work a family as well." We work alongside community partners, residents and volunteers to deliver a wide range of local projects, workshops and activities designed to support and connect our communities. A recent example of this can be seen at our Kemsley Wellbeing Hub in Sittingbourne (Kent), where the Groundwork Green Doctor visited and spoke to residents about how to make their homes more energy efficient and reduce bills. There was a lot of great advice shared and residents were also each given a free energy-saving lightbulb. It was a great opportunity to also chat to residents about any issues affecting their homes. More information our approach to community projects can be found on our website here: www.southernhousing.org.uk/support-for-our-residents/community-projects-wellbeing-and-support
We joined our sister charity, Fresh Visions, to hand out some winter warmer goody bags to help vulnerable residents stay warm, safe and supported during these colder months. ❄️ The pack included a hat and scarf as well as a nifty wind-up torch, thermos and much more. 🧤🧣 Thank you to Lisa, Community Health and Wellbeing Manager, for letting us tag along, and residents for taking the time to chat to us. It was a great day! 😃
We're delighted to announce that after 18 months of consultation with residents and colleagues, we're launching our new Capital Investment Agreements programme. Representing up to £2.38 billion of essential upgrades, it's one of the largest capital investment programmes in the social housing sector. Mij Rahman, our Director of Capital Investment, talks more about this major milestone which will bring cost efficiency, stability, and better quality outcomes for our residents' homes over the next two decades.
