🎤 ”Be visible.” Yesterday, TrueLayeristas hosted a panel to discuss how women can excel in the tech sector. Huge thanks to our fantastic guest speakers Elena Pantazi Read, Maggie Simpson and Maryanna Rayko for your inspiring anecdotes and food for thought 💙 As of 2022, the percentage of women working in UK tech companies is 22% (Deloitte), up just 2.6% vs 2019. So what can we do to better support gender diversity moving forward? The conversation today was a strong reflection of 3 key principles we value at TrueLayer: take risks, think big, own it. 💬 "Be visible. Put yourself out there, even if you don’t do it well the first time, you will learn for the next." — Maryanna Rayko, Director of Engineering at TrueLayer 💬 "Getting to know your own strengths and style is paramount. Find out what your strengths are, harness them and then be loud to the world about them." — Elena Pantazi, Partner Talent and Portfolio Development at Northzone 💬 "Developing your own coaching style is much more effective than a top-down manager approach. Last weekend, our London office was transformed into Santa’s grotto for a festive ‘Parents Day’. There were craft tables and giant lego bricks, sweet treats and games, and even a visit from Santa himself 🎅 As well as providing top tier entertainment for the little ones, we wanted to celebrate our awesome working parents. At TrueLayer, our policy is that family comes first. No one should ever fret about taking last-minute time off, or having a different everyday schedule. Our Head of Content Nicki Cho said: “I’ve worked in tech startups before and felt that as a parent I was in the minority. That can sometimes be tiring, because you feel like you need to do a lot of explaining around why you need to finish a meeting on time, leave early or take a random day off mid-week, for example. At TrueLayer I’ve never felt like that. I’ve enjoyed being part of the Parents Slack channel, with 70 other TrueLayeristas. From sharing first-day-at-school school pictures to parenting tips it’s great to connect with a group of people going through similar things'
Shakila Joseph, Software Engineer at TrueLayer, recently spoke with SheCanCode about her role and how the company supports its tech female workforce.
