What is health insurance like at The RealReal?

Pros

Good health insurance and PTO

Cons

This place is like a dark dungeon with no natural light, poor air circulation, and bathrooms that flood and smell like decomposing bodies. The corporate culture is similar to that of high school but worse. There are very few in upper management positions that have actual experience to make them qualified. Don’t waste your time with this dump!

Does The RealReal offer unlimited holiday?

Pros

I witnessed tremendous company growth during my time here (HQ), from opening our first store to going public on the stock exchange. It was an incredible learning experience and I was fortunate to be apart of it early in my career. TRR gave me opportunities to lead big projects and make an impact on the overall business. Having the company on your resume will get your foot in the door at other companies in the Bay Area.

Cons

All of this growth and development came at a cost: -You are overworked and expected to fix anything that breaks (even off-hours or time off). -Company culture is non-existent and the company is too cheap to treat workers (departments eventually cut birthday celebrations and birthday cards, which is just sad). -"Unlimited PTO" is for show, no one ever takes it nor do they insist you take it if they see you working hard. -Sink or Swin culture: Self-starters will thrive in this work environment but this becomes toxic once you've proven yourself and management throws more projects at you. They rely heavily on you since you're the only one who knows how to do it. Nothing From TRR is Genuine. It's all about meeting goal at the end (in HQ and field/warehouse): -Sustainability is just a marketing tactic (They don't value it internally. You should put together workshops to educate us on why we should care) -Diversity is non-existent in HQ. This is pretty embarrassing for a Bay Area Company. While it has gotten better, the HQ is pretty white overall... -Managers are not good leading teams, they're good pushing them to their limits. TRR unfortunately promotes individual contributors as managers. Many people I know left because they didn't like their manager.

Advice to Management

Appreciate your workers Hire managers who can respectfully lead teams Put your money where your mouth is with the new "TRR values"

-"Unlimited PTO" is for show, no one ever takes it nor do they insist you take it if they see you working hard.

Does The RealReal offer pet insurance?

Pros

- If you're a fashion lover, it's fun to work and being surrounded by beautiful pieces of clothing. - Nice to be surrounded by young fellow individuals who are also like-minded in terms of fashion. - Work on your own. You can just pop your airpods and listen to music or podcasts during your entire shift. - Great benefits. I don't have a dog but pet insurance is offered! 401k as well

Cons

- Management: So messy. They make the workplace feel like high school all over again. - Favoritism: Need I say more. - Quantity over Quality: They push hard for you to go over and beyond quota. - Unfair: I keep to myself and do all the work I need to do, yet still get picked on. Better to be thick skinned because if you don't care, then great. - Work is repetitive. This could either be a pro or con, depending on what kind of person you are. - Environment: It's quite cliquey. Overall, it's a great company that still has a lot of growing to do. They offer great benefits. BUT it is really up to you and how you manage to get past the cons listed above. As long as if you remember that work is work, and that everything that happens at work STAYS at work, you should be fine.

Advice to Management

Remember that your employees are humans, not robots. It's QUALITY over Quantity. Bring back holidays.

How are the career development opportunities at The RealReal?

Pros

independent, simple and straight-forward work, friendly employees, free lunch wednesdays

Cons

monotonous, long hours, very limited career growth potential, quantity over quality based work, manipulative end goals, no clear promotional structure, long hours

Advice to Management

- if you are going to offer a bonus for hitting above quota, don't have employees switch to a different mannequin right before they hit goal. It isn't sneaky, you're not fooling anyone. It's a blatant move to manipulate employees out of their reward for exceeding a goal. It takes away all motivation to work.
