      Customer Success Manager Interview

      10 Feb 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Austin, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at AWL (Austin, TX) in Dec 2017

      Interview

I was an internal applicant applying for a promotion, so outside-hire experiences may differ. I had four interviews in one day, fairly back-to-back: I met with the Team Lead of the team I was applying for, then the Manager of the team I was on at the time, then the Manager of the team I was applying for, then lastly I met with the CEO. The interviews were about 30 minutes each, and each interviewer asked questions about professional situations I've experienced as well as theoretical-scenario questions - sometimes I'd be asked the same question but in a slightly different way by different interviewers. In addition to asking questions to make sure my skill set was a good fit for the role, some of the questions were asked to make sure I was a good culture fit, as team/office morale is important to Customer Success management. It's important to provide specific examples when interviewing at AWL - generalities won't cut it. If they ask about an experience with a difficult customer, your best bet is to provide the customer's name and as much detail about the scenario and resolution as possible.

      Customer Success Manager I Interview

      19 Feb 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at AWL in Jan 2026

      Interview

My interview experience with AWL raised multiple concerns that ultimately made me withdraw my interest. From the start, interviewers did not clearly introduce their roles, responsibilities, or relevance within the organization. There was no context around who they were, how decisions are made, or why their perspective mattered. This immediately created confusion and made it difficult to understand the company structure or leadership dynamics. The interviewers appeared disengaged, low-energy, and overly accustomed to their tenure. Questions were met with dismissive comments like “we get asked that a lot,” which signals a lack of self-awareness and poor communication. If candidates repeatedly ask the same questions, that suggests important information is not being clearly conveyed. The interview flow was awkward and disjointed. Each question was followed by long pauses for note-taking, which repeatedly interrupted the natural flow of conversation and made it feel more like an interrogation than a dialogue. Several questions were repeated that had already been asked by prior interviewers, indicating poor internal coordination. Tasks and responsibilities were described vaguely, with little clarity around expectations, success metrics, or priorities. This lack of structure made the role feel undefined and unstable. Most concerning, I was asked personal questions about marital status and children. These questions are inappropriate and represent a serious professional and legal red flag. They immediately damaged my trust and raised my concerns about potential bias. There was a strong focus on happy hours and alcohol-based socializing, which felt out of step with an inclusive workplace culture. Overall, the experience reflected disorganization, weak communication, and a lack of modern leadership practices.
