    International Business Development Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Admiral Group.

    Interview

    Interview was professional.
    3 interviews in total.
In my first 2 interviews, I was told I had relevant skills.
After my 3rd interview, I was informed that I was overqualified and would find the role not challenging.
Hence a very strange experience!! Also seemed that interviewer was extremely uncomfortable with technology. Given the insurance industry is undergoing a tech revolution, the whole 3rd interview experience was strange. The third interview was with C-level executive.

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Admiral Group (Cardiff, Wales).

    Interview

Completed an online maths test and then was invited straight to an in person interview.
Multiple interviewers in the room, all fairly awkward which gave an odd vibe.
After the interview had to repeat the maths test I'd completed at home, but in "exam conditions". Felt like school.
Overall a pleasant experience - the office was lovely and loved the casual dress of everybody who worked there.

    Interview Questions

    Difficult Interview

    Interview

Submitted my application and shortly recieved an email asking me to complete a test. It was 25 questions in 25 minutes. They said I had to do it without the use of a calculator and to do it in my head. The questions themselves were not difficult but were hard to complete just in my head. Whoever is smart enough to do these questions in their head with no calculator or pen and paper, is too smart to be working here.

    Interview

Sent in my CV as requested, and then got declined for not completing a technical test which I was never sent, which is a bit strange. Nothing in junk or any other correspondence to speak of. Should probably work on making sure candidates receive what they are asking them to complete before dropping them.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Admiral Group (Cardiff, Wales).

    Interview

Sent in my CV and Cover letter as requested, for the data scientist and international data scientist roles. I have a MSc in bioinformatics. A week later I received an email asking me to do a maths proficiency test, 24 questions in 24 minutes, I had heard beforehand from other interviewees that this was difficult. I didn’t find the questions difficult (I have an A in A2 Maths was among the highest achieving students in my college class), the time limit however was impossible for such complex questions, I got to questions 18 of 24. I guess they must be looking for super geniuses in mental maths, because I got informed the next day that they wouldn’t be interviewing me.

    End User Compute Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Cardiff, Wales
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Admiral Group (Cardiff, Wales) in July 2020.

    Interview

Two stage interview firstly via phone and secondly via online meeting (Teams).

1st stage interview was a very good experience; it was just myself and one person interviewing me on the phone. Just asking me to talk though my current job duties and my CV, lasted 30 minutes and by the end of it the person said they were very impressed, I seemed to be exactly what they were looking for and would be in touch to arrange a 2nd stage interview.

2nd stage interview was myself and three people on the interview panel, the interview here lasted 1 hour 20 minutes. Based on the questions being asked, it seemed as if this role was actually more based around automation and project work rather than the usual IT desktop support role. Perhaps in future, the job title could be revised as it is quite misleading and I would not have applied for this role had I known that this is what was the role actually was. A better job title would be “Automation IT Engineer” or along those lines, the “End User Computing Engineer” job title is more used in the IT industry for standard desktop / helpdesk support roles which can be misleading.

I was also slightly annoyed with the question techniques, they kept on saying “there is no right or wrong answer” but obviously there has to be a right answer otherwise how do you choose the right candidate? The questions were very open-ended and intended to be answered in a very general and open-ended manner, however I feel this made it quite difficult to answer the questions as I did not know if the interview panel were looking for just a general or perhaps a more technical answer to the question, so you may end up giving a very long answer and end up droning on as you aren’t sure what type of answer they are looking for, which can make the candidate feel uncomfortable as they’ll be unsure if they’ve answered correctly or not.

The interview panel were all nice and cheerful people and took the time to answer in detail the questions I had for them at the end instead of just rushing to finish the interview.

I finished the interview feeling a little disappointed, however I had a feeling in advance that I was not going to be offered the position anyway.

Finally, the recruitment person advised that the hiring manager recommended me to apply for a “IT Service Desk Analyst” role as they felt I was much more closely skilled to this. So I applied for this position and in less than a week I was emailed back saying I had not been successful and not even offered an interview! This process just felt like a waste of time when I was not even invited for interview for a role that they said I was much more suited for and recommended me to apply (which one would assume they want to interview you for).

All in all, a slightly negative experience with Admiral on this occasion as I know in practice they are meant to be quite a good company to interview at and work for.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Admiral Group in July 2020.

    Interview

Initial test of 25 questions in 25 minutes. I felt the difficulty was appropriate for the job role, time management was important.
Had an hour long interview on Skype. No competency questions, all business and related data science problems towards insurance. Wasn't very technical, questions was more about what you'd theoretically do if presented a problem. Would recommend to learn the components involved in making a quote and what would happen if certain factors changed.

    Interview Questions

    • If you changed your quote by doubling the distance you could travel on your insurance how would the quote change and why.   1 Answer
    • If given demographical data of the UK with 1.7 mill rows how would admiral extract value   1 Answer
