      Senior Consultant Interview

      15 Feb 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dallas, TX
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Alsbridge (Dallas, TX) in Nov 2009

      Interview

I was contacted by their recruiter and arranged a phone interview. Based on the merits of my resume I would say the recruiter seemed very convinced of my qualifications and did not ask me many probing questions. He alluded to a likely on-site interview and we concluded our call. In the days the followed I was invited to Dallas to interview personally. I was flown to Dallas and put up in their preferred hotel. It was very first class at every step I must say. I arrived at 8:00am for the interview and was placed into a small conference room with a handful of other candidates. That was awkward I must say but all of us made the most of it and actually networked, got connected on LinkedIn, etc during that time. I then interviewed with 2 Managing Consultants/Partners and the CEO of Alsbridge. All of them were extremely impressive individuals who clearly know a great deal about their industry. Partner 1: He was very amenable, broke the ice, and got a feel for my personality. He asked me a little bit about the path of my career based upon my resume which became the basis for a very fluid conversation moving back and forth through style/personality areas and evaluation of my domain knowledge. At the end of the interview I asked him if he had any reservations about moving forward and he questioned how much experience I had in x,y,z areas. I was truly puzzled based upon my resume. Duration about 30 minutes. Partner 2: This gentleman was extremely impressive just in terms of the people in my industry that he knew and he dropped all the names of the people he knew in the companies that I had worked for. The subtle message was that he had the ability to find out anything about me and how I work. It was intimidating but in a way it was also very clarifying. We then moved into a pretty conventional interview. I asked him the same "closing question" and he replied similarly that he was not convinced I had certain domain knowledge that would be needed to do the role. I then looked across the desk and saw that the recruiter had given all of the interviewers an outdated version of my resume from LinkedIn - - one which was missing serious portions of my work experience. I handed the interviewer my current resume but we were out of time. Duration 30 minutes. CEO: Wow what an extremely impressive individual. I addressed the resume snafu early-on and then had a very solid conversation with him. The conversation with him for about 15 minutes and asked my closing question. He said I probably had a place in the firm but he could not sell me as a xxxxxxxxxx position based on my background. I challenged this very professionally and he seemed to indicate that if I were able to be flexible on my salary requirements initially they could take me on and "get me there" in terms of knowledge. I am an extremely good interviewee and think well on my feet. I also communicate very credibly and professionally. That I was not offered a position - - well it could have been that they simply found a better candidate but I think the whole thing would have gone off much better had I understood the version control issue on the resume. That is a very difficult lesson that I learned and since corrected.
