I applied for a Project Manager role. There did not seem to be much thought put into the interview process by this company; the person conducting the initial interview was not privy to the translation/localization industry and not even an employee of the company, they were a third party recruiter conducting the interview. The interviewer was concerned about how I never held a managerial title and said I would better fit as a coordinator. I responded that I have already done the Coordinator level role twice and am qualified to be a manager. I was not asked many questions about the role itself. I was asked about salary, so I asked about the range/budget for the position. She pretended to search and then finally said she didn't think she had that. So then I responded that it must be premature to discuss salary at this time if a range has not yet been determined (the law requires that the employer give this upon request in CA). She then asked how much I was currently making (not legal to ask in CA). I dodged this question because this was just unprofessional at this point. At the end of the interview, I asked if she could give more details about the role and job duties but she began to describe her job duties as a recruiter and the company she worked for... I tried not to laugh and the interview ended there.
