Software Tester (With Engineering Backgrourd) Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at BETA CAE Systems (Thessaloníki, Western Macedonia) in Oct 2021

      Interview

The hiring process did take too long! Be prepared to spend about two months to receive your final feedback. In the first place, I was invited to take a timed python test via the codibility platform online from home. There were four problems in total, which required some basic python knowledge to answer them (mostly on algorithms). Then after passing this test, I was invited in company’s premises to take a technical test, which would last about two hours. Not a big deal at all. I found it quite easy and I was pretty much done in an hour and half in a very normal pace. So don’t be afraid of it! Then, I had a call from the HR to arrange an interview. During the interview, I was asked a few questions with regards to my CV (studies, final year project, dissertation) and then we moved to the two tests I had taken one by one. They were trying to modify the questions and see if I could cope with, making the questions way too complex than they were. They emphasized quite a lot on programming, even though it was not a prerequisite according to the job vacancy advertised. Knowledge of programming was to be considered a bonus!!! This was actually something I didn’t like. If you need a programmer or software engineer, just make it clear. They were looking for candidates with a mechanical or civil engineering degree and at the same time very good programmers which again was not a prerequisite. It didn’t make sense to me! They didn’t seem to care that much for your technical knowledge and skills as they did for programming. The interview took about an hour and half. For every stage, I had to wait for about thirteen days on average. I personally liked the people and the environment. I found the hiring procedure a bit too much and their expectations too high. Abroad they’d most likely hire two engineers with different backgrounds for this role or at least give some room to their future employees to develop their coding skills, as a quality assurance engineer is often learned best on the job.
