Went through four rounds of interviews, first with the recruiter, next with the hiring manager, afterwards with a member of the team, and finally a presentation to a group of folks who collaborate with researchers. I felt that the advice I got from the recruiter to go with one case study over another ultimately hurt my chance, so I'd say stick to your guns.
