I was able to initially apply directly to a hiring manager after an advert for an automotive technology opening was forwarded to me. The hiring manager consistently responded to emails within one business day of my emails, and a two-part on-site interview was scheduled via HR the next business week. The main interview was a panel interview with five of their engineers. They started by asking a few typical questions - 'introduce yourself,' 'where do you see yourself in five years,' 'why did you choose your degree and this career path,' etc. I was then asked to walk them through the experiences on my resume, and fielded their questions after each one. Some questions were technical questions to make sure I knew what I was talking about, some were just asking for more detail or how team dynamics went on each project, but overall it was very relaxed and a good atmosphere, and I found it very easy to talk to them. After going through everything on my resume, a few of the engineers on the panel went through the different types of projects they work on in their group. Note for applicants: they were very interested in hearing about relevant/technical hobby projects. In the second part of the interview, the panel left, and an HR person came in an answered any of my remaining questions and gave some background on the company. The office seemed like a great environment, everyone has been there for a long time, and people that have left recently have come back. It was a very laid-back and positive experience.
