The recruiters don't know how to set you up for success. I have had the wrong manager interview me, I've had managers tell me I was the best candidate, then a generic email denying my candidacy.
I come from a different industry and although they want and ask for diversity, it's not appreciated in practice. From speaking to well over 30 companies in 2 years, Cruise's recruiting process and middle management interviews are the most waste of time I have encountered. The recruiters are horrible, cold, and irritating; the middle management doesn't know how to recruit an experienced engineer.
