I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Cruise
Interview
The Process:
(1) Cruise recruiter reached out me via email, presumably from my LinkedIn page
(2) Phone screen with recruiter
(3) Analytics-focused take home
(4) Technical phone screen with current member of team
Feedback:
(1) Unfortunately, the hiring manager for this role and recruiting were clearly NOT aligned. The description for this role described it as a data analyst role in the engineering org. To quote the recruiter I worked with, the role would be 50/50 data communication and technical work. I wanted more technical work as an analyst, so that sounded good! In fact, the take home was very analyst-focused as well.
However, after my technical phone screen I asked the interviewer what kind of work the team did. Apparently the team does >80% data pipeline work. That really surprised me! I would not have applied to this role had I known that.
(2) I enjoyed the take home, but why give it BEFORE the technical phone screen? This is not industry standard. Unfortunately, I basically wasted a weekend (and really, taking away a weekend that could have been spent enjoying San Francisco is pretty mean!) on a job I shouldn't have applied for in the first place.
