      Sales Associate Interview

      7 Jul 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Long Island City, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at David's Bridal (Long Island City, NY) in Jun 2010

      Interview

I received a phone call about coming in for an interview the day after I applied, so the response was very quick. The interview for this position itself was rather easy. The person interviewing me asked me a few questions about how I would handle certain situations (ex. How do I respond to theft in the workplace?) They asked me why I would be interested in the job and what my hours were like. It was pretty standard and nothing I hadn't heard before. What was poor about this interview was the follow up. This may not be true to every store, but this was my experience: I was called two days after the interview and asked if I could come in and meet with the district manager. For personal reasons I was unable, so the manager told me that she would be calling back with information about the interview. I had not heard from her by the end of the next business day, so I called her. She turned out not to be in for work that day, so I was told she would call me the following day. When I heard nothing from her again, I called the store once more and she gave me the number and told me the district manager would be expecting my call. After all that trouble, my phone interview with the district manager lasted exactly 2 minutes and 38 seconds. She asked nothing specific, only that I tell her a little bit about myself. Up until the last 20 seconds of the phone conversation, she seemed to think I was applying for a different position at a different store (in spite of having told her what store and who had told me to call). I didn't hear anything for a few days. The phone interview was on a Thursday, so I called the store once again the following Monday to see if I was still being considered for the position. I was told that I was, and that the store manager would need to speak with the district manager about when I could come in for a trial run, and she would call me back. This was more than a week ago, so I assume I am not getting a call back. I have no idea if I was really being considered for the position, or if she just didn't want to tell me that I was not getting hired. My suggestion would be that the company work on communication with the people they are hiring, since it seems that the other reviews for the interview process describe similarly long stretches of time for the interview.
