      Marketing Contractor Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Deloitte (New York, NY)

      Interview

I applied and heard via email about 6 weeks later that I would be moving forward for an interview. I met with the hiring manager who indicated they were working on several contracting roles and it seemed that they were interviewing to see who was a fit for what assignment. They were looking for specific technical expertise not just marketing to support clients. I was asked which area I fit in best of the ones provided, and honestly I was not a solutions consultant in my prior tech companies or product expert, so I gave experience but not at the level I think they wanted. However, it was supposed to be a marketing role supporting clients, so if the relationship building and the marketing experience were there, then it would just be about learning about the clients solutions etc. and anyone super smart can learn quickly. But I did not feel that I was what they were looking for. I got a rejection letter - 6 months later. The per hour pay (no benefits) was very low for what they were hiring for, even before the technical expertise level was revealed. It was more appropriate for a college grad not someone with 30 years of expertise at fortune 500 companies and multiple degrees.
