IT- Enterprise Applications Group Intern Interview

      11 Aug 2010
      Anonymous employee
      Hermitage, TN
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Deloitte (Hermitage, TN) in May 2010

      Interview

My resume was sent to Deloitte through INROADS, a minority internship program. Deloitte very much values diversity and inclusion, and they pull many of their Nashville and Hermitage interns from the INROADS program. My INROADS mentor sent my resume off to the Deloitte talent contact over the interns, and I was contacted about setting up an appointment for a phone interview. Although the interview had to be rescheduled because the interviewer was very busy, I was very satisfied with the level of consideration with which they approach other people's schedules. I was given adequate notification that the interview would be rescheduled. The first phone interview was a very short one, about 10 minutes. The interviewer did more explanation of the process and available intern positions, and he didn't ask any interview questions. We then set up a time for my second phone interview, with two people in the department in which I would intern. This phone interview went very well. The interview had a light, laid back tone, and my two interviewers were easy going and talkative. They didn't ask any difficult questions, and they took time to get to know me instead of just throwing questions at me then rushing off the phone. They noted that they had a good feeling about my interview, and they let me know that they'd contact me after all of the interviews had been completed in a week or so. Like a good applicant, I contacted them as soon as one week had passed, and again after two weeks. There were delays with the interviewing process that made it take longer, but everyone I spoke with when calling or emailing was happy to help and was very polite. I had not seen the office or even been anywhere near it prior to my interview. However, after arriving, I can say that Deloitte feels like a much more intimate company than its size would indicate. Everyone is eager to help you out, and every door is open. The company culture stresses diversity and inclusion, and you will definitely see a mix of races, genders, ages, and cultures here. They make sure that the interns aren't just doing petty work; they train us on everything, let us dive into real projects, and give us tools that we can use when the internship is over (networking trainings, coaches, mentors). I will be leaving this summer with a larger network, tons of knowledge about new things, and a good amount of earnings in the bank. The experience is great.
