I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Dutchie in Nov 2023
Interview
The interview process was fairly straightforward and everyone was very positive throughout. I was only given the option of writing code in either Ruby or C# (I made it clear that I currently write in a different programming language but I have a good deal of experience with C#). While the question itself was not difficult, writing in a programming language you haven't used in 10 months is not pleasant. Looking back on the process, it's pretty clear that the technical interviewer had a solution in mind that was "most correct" and that my thought process was not important.
Despite this, at the end of the interview process, I had to follow up with the interviewer multiple times before finally being told that I had been "down leveled" to a Staff Engineer because of my technical interview and that there were no positions of that type open.
During the period of silence after the interview, I was notified by LinkedIn (via an alert on the job title) that the position I had applied and interviewed for had been re-listed. It doesn't take a lot of effort to send a "thanks, but no thanks" email to a candidate.
I would steer clear of Dutchie. From this process it seems like they do not respect candidates and their time.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked to design a simple system for checking individuals in and out of dispensaries and to provide several reports.
Thank you for taking the time to share your interview experience. During our interview process, we proactively communicate with candidates as much as possible to clearly set timelines and expectations (including delays due to holidays or key stakeholders being out of office).
In addition, we continually assess each candidate's level throughout our interactions to ensure that we are bringing new hires in at the appropriate level to ensure we're setting everyone up for success when they join Dutchie. We proactively communicate this during our first phone screen so there are no surprises along the way. We understand candidates are eager to learn where they are in the process, and prioritize sharing updates as soon as decisions are made.
