      Full Stack Engineer Interview

      9 Oct 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Milan
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Empatica (Milan) in Jun 2017

      Interview

Applied through their website. The process took 2 months. I applied at the end of May 2017 and I've been contacted for an assignment by mid June. The assignment was quite open: build the backend and frontend of a small app. It took me about 1 week, considering that I worked on it during the evening/night only. About 2 weeks later I had the second interview via Skype: discussion about my background, experiences, projects, and few technical questions. It lasted about 1 hour. Third step face to face day-long interview, firstly technical on both backend and frontend development and then about devops, then with HR about the company culture, career ecc. Then 1 hour final interview with the CEO. People were very nice (specially the technical staff) and I enjoyed my time spent with them. Company uses cutting edge technologies and people seem passionate about their job. They are in a modern work environment. Overall a very positive experience. After a couple of weeks I got the offer, but eventually I decided to accept another offer. The company seems extremely selective so I can understand the negative reviews here, but they seem (reasonably) very keen to deeply check candidates.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Develop a small app - both backend and frontend.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Empatica in May 2020

      Interview

Multi-interview process consisting of both technical and non-technical interviews, as well as conference calls with the team, the company's founders and CEO. The interview process mixed informal meetings to get to know each other, as well as more structured technical interviews.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

I was presented by the whole team with a document outlining the previous iteration of architecture specification and asked to make an analysis of possible bottle necks and pain points. I was given some time (~1h) to read through it and come up with an analysis.

      Question 2

More informal meetings involved a lot of common question that aim at understanding my personality, my ambitions and what I'm looking for in life.
