I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at H E B (Friendswood, TX) in Feb 2011
Interview
The store started out with a group interview where all the applicants were in the room at the same time. The interviewers talked about the store, and then tried to get to know everybody a little bit by asking questions about them, and what they would do in certain situation. They're trying to get you to break out of your shell a little bit by asking you to sell them something. They'll usually call you in the next couple days to come do orientation, or a follow-up one-on-one interview.
The interview process is unique and done in a few parts. There is a group interview where you interact with other applicants. They also ask you one on one questions in a more traditional interview setting.
