Question 1
Why do you want to work in the tax preparation field?
I applied in-person. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at H&R Block (Lawton, OK) in Dec 2010
Interview
The H&R Block Tax Preparation Course is the interview. The course instructors are the managers during tax season. Successful course completion is the prerequisite for employment. The course itself covers all aspects of tax preparation for individuals and businesses. It lasts roughly from mid to late September through December. It is divided into manual tax preparation and computerized tax preparation. The course is rigorous. but well organized. Upon completion, preparers have a good foundation for handling tax returns. This foundation is built upon during tax season. Of course, due to the complexity of tax law, some returns inevitably require the assistance of senior tax preparers.

Question 1
There were no difficult questions, because the vetting process was the course itself. The main question regarded availability to work flexible hours during tax season.
Very easygoing and very nice manager. Talked about hiring process and training and additional onboarding details as well as job details and how the season and off season, preseason work
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at H&R Block (Chesterton, IN) in Aug 2025
Interview
Upon completing the application through the H&R Block website , I followed up with a call to their office and spoke with a preparer to schedule my interview. I interviewed with two preparers who had a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field. They were very welcoming and kind. They asked me about my prior work experience and spoke to me about their experience and backgrounds. It felt more like a conversation than the usual feeling of an interrogative interview, which I liked. They also allowed space for me to ask questions. It was an amazing interview process.
