      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at HSBC in Feb 2022

      Interview

First, we had a online assessment round of aptitude. Then, of coding questions. After that, we had psychological assessment test to assess our work ethics. After one month, we had technical interview. At last, we had HR interview.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Technical Interview: -> He introduced himself first then, he asked me to introduce myself. ->He looked at my resume and asked me about the project he liked the most. (He wanted to know each and every theoretical detail about the project's database, backend and frontend.) -> He asked me to talk about my main project then. -> What is firebase used for in Android development? _. He asked me about the language I am comfortable with. I answered I know both Java and Python. -> He asked me the difference in Java array list and Python lists. -> He then asked me to share my screen and write the declaration of python lists and java array lists. -> Write a sorting program to descendingly sort an array list in java and a list in python. -> Difference in Tuple and list. ->When list can serve the purpose why did we need tuple? (I said, if we need an immutable data structure for elements, we can use tuple, otherwise, lists.) He was quite satisfied.' ->Which keyword can we use to not make any other class within same package access a function. -> Which domain are you interested to work in? (I said ML/AI) -> He asked have you worked on any project in AI/M(To which, I said no, I just have theoretical knowledge of AI/Ml that's why I wish to work in a company in which I can utilize that theoretical knowledge.

      Application

      Interview

Once you clear online assessments, the on-campus interview rounds begin. Technical Interview: Self-introduction, discussion of your project(s) and resume. Then there were questions on OOPs, sorting algorithms, data structures, basic system design questions (entities, classes) and some easy puzzles. If you clear this round, then you will have the HR round directly. Questions like: Tell me something not on your resume, Why HSBC, past teamwork/leadership, how you deal with pressure or conflicting feedback. The interviewers were generally friendly from my experience and from the experience of other candidates too.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

One of the questions they asked was: “Walk me through a technical challenge you faced in a project and how you solved it.” I described a performance issue I encountered while building a web application, where inefficient database queries slowed response time. I walked through how I identified the bottleneck using logs and query profiling, optimized the queries using indexing, and validated improvements through testing. They wanted to evaluate structured problem-solving, clarity of thought, and ability to translate technical work into business value.
