      Market Research Interview

      2 Apr 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Hanover Research (Washington, DC) in Mar 2015

      Interview

Applied online, in January, after talking with reps at a career fair. Immediately was e-mailed to set up a phone interview- great. The first time I was scheduled to speak with HR, they never called. When I e-mailed them back, they had apologized telling me they were in a meeting that ran late. This happened TWICE more. Completely unprofessional. Three weeks went by after the initial phone call was scheduled, and I finally spoke with a recruiter for approx. 20 minutes. Next, I was sent an online test to complete, which took about an hour. A couple weeks later, I was sent the research project to complete. I spent about 15 hours working on it. After waiting almost two weeks to hear back from HR, a completely different recruiter e-mailed me to schedule an in-person interview. Very disorganized, again. I went in for an in-person interview- keep in mind, it was now March and I had begun applying in January. The interview was 3 30-min interviews with senior level employees on the market research team. They were fine, but not super engaged. One showed up 15 minutes late and assured me that "it would not affect his schedule". I then had 10 minutes for my last interview, which included the most bizarre case question I've ever been asked (about how to approach a research project request). Two weeks later they had e-mailed me to tell me that they enjoyed speaking with me but I would not be moving forward. I read reviews on Glassdoor throughout the entire process, wondering and hoping my experience might be different (better)- nope. If you're applying to Hanover, expect horrible communication from the HR department and a long, drawn out process. It also seems like they interview tons of candidates all the time, and don't frequently extend offers. Unclear how many positions are open at a time, but the position is always listed on the website. One of the worst application experiences I've ever had. Be warned.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience interviewing with Hanover Research and that you felt that your time was not respected. This is never our intention. We are aware that our recruiting process for research candidates is quite long and rigorous and make every effort to be as forthright about this with candidates at all stages of the process. It appears that we dropped the ball in your case. I apologize for that. We do receive a lot of applications each year of which we are only able to extend offers to a small number of candidates. You will always see these core positions listed on our website as it is difficult to predict when business needs may change so we are always accepting applications and speaking with applicants. As the company continues to grow, we hope to be able to increase the number of offers we can extend each year.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Hanover Research in Apr 2014

      Interview

It wasn't too bad, I sent in my resume, got a response saying I moved on then gave me an assignment. Then I completed the assignment and then got called in for an interview. Had 3 half hour interviews with 2 analysts and 1 content director. Unfortunately it didn't work out in the end, but the recruiting team was very professional and courteous.

      Question 1

If you were asked to complete an assignment with absolutely no prior knowledge and no resources for help, what would you do?

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you had a positive interview experience and thank you for the kind words about our recruiting team. They definitely appreciate hearing from their candidates . I'm sorry that it didn't lead to an offer this time around but I do encourage you to keep Hanover on your radar for future opportunities.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Hanover Research (Washington, DC) in Oct 2013

      Interview

First interview is a phone interview with Human Resources. Got a call that lasted around 30 mins and asked to go into details of my background and walk them through resume. I also was asked about visa status and if i would require visa sponsorship in the future, and the range of salaries that i was looking for. Second step was an online personality assessment, and third step was a research project.
