I applied online. I interviewed at HelloFresh (Berlin) in Dec 2023
Interview
After applying online from the career site, the first interview was scheduled. The person in the online interview asked me to ask questions at the beginning. Then she said she would answer my questions if I passed to the next stage. I didn't ask for any confidential information, just general interview questions. She was very impatient and reluctant, and said my answers were very shallow. Frankly, I couldn't passed this stage, but even if I had, I didn't think of continuing.
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at HelloFresh in Aug 2021
Interview
The interview process consists of the following steps:
- Take-home test
- Technical interview
- Behavioral interview
The whole process was smooth and the recruiter was there to provide detailed and fair feedback after each step.
Take-home test is about developing a small microservice, an interesting and challenging task, after submission the code is being reviewed by an engineer, where you can discuss some of the aspects of the implementation. Feedback was constructive and I've managed to learn a few things.
The technical interview is heavily focused on the system design and understanding of microservices, their pros and cons, etc., and not so much on the actual coding skills. Very friendly people and the atmosphere is relaxed.
The behavioral interview was a fairly standard one, but also interesting. STAR approach is preferential.

Question 1
What is the difference between synchronous and asynchronous services communication?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HelloFresh (Berlin) in Nov 2015
Interview
The interview process was the best one compared to the rest of the companies I was applying to.
The process was based in 5 steps:
- Interview with HR (In my case was Julian)
- Coding test
- Code Review by one of their engineers
- Technical Interview with one their Tech Leads (Pedro)
- Final interview with the CTO
Two of the best factors for me were that everything happened in less than two weeks, and communication was flowing continuously.
