It depends on labs you apply. In my case, I had to talk with PIs, solve one problem set, do a presentation. All steps were quite straightforward and not hard
Remote call with the PI. First the PI talked about their research interests and current projects. I had to describe my past projects and research experience followed by a discussion about funding.
I received a phone call interview and after approval I was invited on site to meet with the team as well as present relevant previous projects that I had worked on.
