The first interview was a phone interview. It was standard and nothing beyond a screening call. Afterwards I was sent to take two assessments to judge my logic and personality. Much more simple than they make it out to be, so don’t worry about it (of course I do not suggest you apply to work here, so hopefully you don’t get to that point). The second screening interview was with a self described “HR consultant” who literally asked me to describe myself and my last position. So I begin talking. I related the position and the mission of the company (data analytics) with my interests and abilities. I then spoke about my Payroll Manager experience. Often I would stop and ask her if she had any questions, and I saw that she was barely writing anything down - a bad sign.
I am not going into details here, but the interview resulted in a rejection. That’s perfectly ok - but I reached out for feedback and was told that while my experience was fine, I had serious trouble answering her questions such that she had nothing to give to higher management to continue the interview process. That 100% baffled me because I spoke at length about everything I had done with detail about sales commissions, working in multi-jurisdiction payroll, etc.
She barely asked anything until the very end, namely about working with accounting journal entries. I told her specifically that I had not since our company had a different structure but that I would work often with the accounting department for reconciliation. Point is that I knew that I had failed the interview right there because she obviously stopped listening even though I tried to explain myself further, all of which was met with a dismissive “ah ok!”
I told the recruiter all of this on the phone and his response: “Well no interviewer is perfect!”
Yeah. Obviously neither are interviewees, but that doesn’t get the same treatment does it?
But if you’re going to critique someone, at least be truthful about it.
Steer clear of this company, anyone reading this.
